Wedding Countdown

438 Days to go.

Seems ages doesn't it. Well it does to me. Of course, betrothed sees things differently. In fact, following my proposal in the evening, I was woken up at 3 the next morning. I blearily got out of an empty bed to discover that she was up constructing lists.

I think I muttered "Crazy lady", and went back to bed.

Next morning, I had a look at her nocturnal scribblings, only to discover plans so complex that Machiavelli himself would have been envious. Honestly! Floor plans! Who makes up floor plans at 3 in the morning.

Oh well.

As you may have guessed, I thought this might make an interesting subject for an occasional series of posts over the next year or so. (Opportunity to vent, more like)

Fairly quickly, following the proposal, I had acquired a Best Man. He was there, it was his round, so it seemed as if fate had taken a hand. No, seriously, there was only one real contender.

On the brides side, as I may have mentioned, there are a number of step children (six and three grand children).

Betrothed contacted most of them the next morning. As you may recollect, the only male step child (No. 5) has agreed to give his Mum away. (He tried providing a quote, but I was having none of it).

Youngest step child suggested that oldest should be asked to be Maid of Honour. Excellent idea, I thought. I think I was feeling some kind of rush now, because I then said that I wanted all of the daughters to be bridesmaids. Yup. My idea. (We've now added oldest Grandchild as flower girl, and, I think, other 2 Grandsons as page boys. Possibly ring bearer. Hell if one of them shows up in a chauffeurs cap, I wouldn't be amazed).

Betrothed has now gone and bought me a ring. Haven't actually seen it yet, as it needed re-sizing. (A week ago, I wouldn't have known my ring size - see what a voyage of self discovery this is). Actually, I suspect the size is perfect, but I had to take hers away for the same reason, and this is probably some revenge attack. Thing is, I've been told that when her ring is returned, I have to re-create the proposal in our local pub. This will be the 4th recreation! Lucky my knees are in good order.

Betrothed has also been investigating dresses (both hers and bridesmaids). I should stress that, whilst all of the step daughters agreed to be a bridesmaid, the harsh reality of getting a consensus has yet to sink in. Luckily, due to tradition, as I am not allowed to see the dress, I am more or less absolved from actually going on these expeditions. Instead, I get oral updates on colour, style that kind of thing. Might as well describe differential calculus to me - all I've got so far is Cream. Mind you, she may have been making me coffee.

That'll do for now.
